The Passing of the Night: My Seven Years As a Prisoner of the North Vietnamese by Colonel Robinson Risner. Random House, New York, 1973. First Edition. Copyright 1973. ISBN 0-394-48967-5.
Hardcover with dust jacket. 264 pages with black and white photographs. SIGNED AND INSCRIBED by Brigadier General Robinson Risner on front endpaper: “To Waryl Bartrey Best regards Robbie Risner”
Powerful Vietnam War POW memoir by legendary Air Force fighter pilot Robinson Risner. Shot down over North Vietnam in September 1965, Risner endured seven brutal years as a prisoner of war in the infamous Hanoi Hilton and other North Vietnamese prison camps. This deeply personal account documents his torture, solitary confinement, and unwavering faith that sustained him through unimaginable hardship.
Risner was a true American hero - a fighter ace in Korea who destroyed 8 MiGs, twice awarded the Air Force Cross (the first living recipient), and the first Air Force POW featured on the cover of Time magazine (April 23, 1973).
After his release, he served as Vice Commander of the Fighter Weapons Center at Nellis Air Force Base. The Air Force Academy awards the Risner Trophy annually in his honor to the outstanding fighter pilot of the United States Air Force.
Condition:
Good vintage condition. Hardcover and dust jacket both show moderate wear. Dust jacket has edge chipping, rubbing, and light soiling especially at spine ends and corners. Some creasing to jacket. Book binding is solid. Pages clean and intact with some age toning. A beautiful signed copy from a genuine American war hero.
Scarce signed Vietnam War POW memoir - Risner passed away in 2013.
