ABOUT THIS BOOK
A survey of Jewish contributions to world civilization across 16
chapters by Ada Sterling, author also of "A Belle of the Fifties"
and "Mary, Queen of Scots." Chapters cover the Jew as citizen and
patriot, in industry, commerce, finance, philanthropy, literature,
art, music, mathematics and physics, medicine, agriculture,
jurisprudence, statesmanship, and as a moral force. Published in
the early 1920s — a period of significant anti-Semitic sentiment
in America including the rise of the Ku Klux Klan and Henry Ford's
Dearborn Independent — the book represents an affirmative counter-
narrative of Jewish achievement. Now in the public domain and
preserved by the Internet Archive and digitized by multiple
institutions as a work of cultural importance. Original hardcover
first editions are increasingly scarce.
